Still hunting for that perfect gift for the die-hard Michigan Football fan in your life? Well, it's not too late!
The Michigan History Project, a local non-profit organization has just released their latest publication WOLVERINE: A Photographic History of Michigan Football, which features over 1,000 photos of Michigan Football's past, many of which have never been seen before. The book showcases photos from some of the landmark seasons in Ann Arbor, including 1925, 1947, 1969, 1997 and 2011.
I was contacted by the Michigan History Project earlier this year looking to get their hands on some of my photos from the 2011 season. Of course, I was more than happy to offer up anything they needed, including the photo above which is featured in the forward of the book written by Denard Robinson.
The bulk of the photos came from various local archives such as the Bentley Historical Library, The Detroit News and the Ann Arbor News. But they also reached out to various independent folks like me who cover Michigan Football. We're now in an age when it's not just the "big guys" covering Michigan anymore. Michigan is well represented by blogs and some great work...and great photos, are being offered up on sites like this. Very cool that folks like the Michigan History Project are recognizing that and reaching out.
I received my copy yesterday and I have to say I am really impressed with not only the photos in the book, many of which I've never seen before, but the overall fit and finish is incredible to say the least. The Michigan History Project went all out to create a very special book that will certainly be one of the favorites in my collection for a very long time.
The book is available at various Ann Arbor/Metro Detroit retailers, and of course at Amazon.com, where you can still get free 2-day shipping via Amazon Prime if you're a member. As a special gift to MBN readers, use the coupon code MIGOBLUE to receive 10% off!
