Fridays Future Huddle Could Have a Commitment This Weekend

The coaching staff is about to embark on a big weekend on the recruiting trail, with several high profiled recruits expected to arrive in Ann Arbor in the upcoming days. With so many recruits on campus, is a commitment imminent? Find out in this Fridays version of “The Future Huddle”.

2016 4* DE Khalid Kareem (Farmington, MI)

Khalid is a name that most are familiar with by now, as this will be his seventh visit to Ann Arbor. Khalid has blown up on the recruiting trail over the past year and his offer sheet now stands at 36, with most high profiled schools offering the talented 4* defensive end.  Although I do have Khalid ultimately ending up in Michigan’s 2016 recruiting class, I do not see a commitment happening this weekend.

2016 5* OT Ben Bredeson (Hartland, WI)

Ben is another high profiled recruit that has visited Michigan several times already. After being recruited by both Brady Hoke’s and Jim Harbaugh’s coaching staffs, Ben is very familiar with the Wolverines. Throw in the fact that his brother currently plays on the Michigan baseball team, Michigan looks to be in good shape with his recruitment going forward.  Ben is also another prospect I have joining the 2016 recruiting class, but I also don’t see a commitment happening this weekend.

2016 4* WR Donald Stewart (West Orange, NJ)

It’s no secret that Michigan is trying to build a pipeline in the state of New Jersey. With Jabrill Peppers and Juwann Bushell-Beatty already on the roster, Michigan has a solid head start at luring high profiled prospects north to Michigan. One recruit that has been heavily recruited lately is Donald Stewart, who hails from the same high school as the aforementioned. Stewart, who was offered in April, seems to be trending towards the Maize and Blue, but will he commit this weekend? While I wouldn’t be surprised if Donald did pull the trigger this weekend, I also wouldn’t be surprised if he let his recruitment lead into his senior year.

2016 4* WR Austin Mack (Fort Wayne, IN)

Austin is another recruit that has long been on Michigan’s recruiting board.  This weekend could prove to be integral to his recruitment as he is scheduled to make his college choice on June 7th, along with fellow high school teammate Auston Robertson.  This upcoming visit will be Austin’s sixth time visiting Ann Arbor, and it’s extremely important that the visit goes over very smooth, as Michigan is currently considered trailing for the talented four star receiver.  At this point in his recruitment, I would guess that he ends up committing to Ohio State on June 7th.

2016 4* APB Chris Evans (Indianapolis, IN)

Chris is a recruit that is new to the Michigan recruiting board. While Michigan already has two running back commits in 2016, Chris brings a different skill-set to the table, as he is a back you can use on all three downs and has the ability to become a very strong pass blocker on third downs.  While Chris doesn’t hold an offer from Michigan yet, the chances of him receiving one are very high this weekend and a commitment could be on the horizon.

Chances of a commitment this weekend -75% *if offered

2016 3* RB Kiante Enis (Winchester, IN)

Enis is another running back that is expected to make his way to Ann Arbor for the first time this weekend.  Kiante currently holds ten scholarship offers with his most notable offers coming from Michigan State, Indiana, Cincinnati, and Louisville.  After a strong junior season where he racked up 3,189 rushing yards and 49(!) touchdowns, Enis is starting to gain some momentum in his recruitment. One major factor to watch in regard to his recruitment is that if Chris Evans was to commit to Michigan this weekend, it would likely end the chances of Kiante wearing the Maize and Blue in his collegiate career.  Kiante will be visiting Michigan State today and then make the short trip to Ann Arbor to visit on Saturday. Enis comes from a strong bloodline of football, as his father was a running back for Penn State during the 1990’s and was drafted fifth overall in 1998.

2017 4* QB Dylan McCaffrey (Littleton, CO)

Another visitor with a famous family member, as his father Ed McCaffrey played thirteen seasons in the NFL. Dylan will be making his first trip to Ann Arbor this weekend after being the first 2017 quarterback to receive a scholarship from Michigan in February.  Dylan is a very intriguing prospect as he fits the bill perfectly as to what Jim Harbaugh looks for in a quarterback. McCaffery will be flying into Ann Arbor on Friday and staying until Sunday according to 24/7’s Steve Lorenz.  One school to watch for in his recruitment is his father’s Alma mater Stanford.

Chances of a commitment this weekend – 10%

2017 4* DE/OLB Corey Malone-Hatcher (Saint Joseph, MI)

Corey is a recruit that I’m a big fan of his skill-set. From early on in his high school career, you could tell that he would be a force along the defensive line.  He’s able to lineup as a defensive end or drop back into the box and rush as a linebacker.  Watching his film, all I can think about is what a dominant player he could be in a Mattison/Durkin lead defense.  Corey has seen a major boost in his recruitment over the past year and has received scholarship offers from schools such as; Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, and Michigan State.  Corey will definitely wait his recruitment out and visit as many schools as possible during his junior and senior seasons. Due to this, I do not see a commitment coming in the near future.

*2016 DE Auston Robertson (Fort Wayne, IN) also may visit this weekend

5* WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (Detroit, MI)
4* OT JaRaymond Hall (Oak Park, MI)
4* ILB Josh Ross (West Bloomfield, MI)
4* CB Ambry Thomas (Detroit, MI)
