Scouting Report:
Three weeks ago, Michigan didn't have a single pass-rusher
in their 2015 recruiting class. Now, they have two. Shelton gets off the line very quick and does a good
job of using his hands to break past the line of scrimmage. Has the ability to
lineup on the inside or outside. Standing at 6'5 has the ideal frame to play
defensive end at the college level, but will have to add on more muscle mass, as he
only weighs 225 pounds. Very athletic for someone his size, and gets off the
line with good speed. Does an excellent job of getting low on blockers and
keeping his feet moving, which causes the lineman to fall back on their heels
and become off balanced. Very aggressive with hand movements. A very solid pass-rusher but will have to work on stopping the run. Does a good job of
tackling and often brings the ball carrier to the ground without help of
teammates.
Highlight Film:
To be honest, I’m surprised Michigan was able to land
Johnson. Florida State has done one heck
of a job in recruiting the past few years, and it’s not very often an in-state
kid that they want, decides to spurn them to head elsewhere. Michigan now boasts three recruits from the
state of Florida in their 2015 recruiting class.
Shelton becomes Michigan’s 13th commitment in the
2015 recruiting class joining; CB Keith Washington, RB Karan Higdon, DE Reuben
Jones, QB Zach Gentry, WR Grant Perry, OL Nolan Ulizio, OL Jon Runyan Jr., K
Andrew David, QB Alex Malzone, DB Tyree Kinnel, and WR Brian Cole.
