Rankings are determined before each week's games.

The upper crust
While the B1G East has been the Michigan State/Ohio State show for most of the entire season (and that probably won't change anytime soon), we are starting to see some surprise contenders in Iowa/Minnesota in the west. Even Northwestern is still well in the mix here in mid-October. But as we see every year, some real separation will start to occur here soon.
Nebraska at Northwestern on Saturday night should be a very good game that will go along way in determining which of those two could continue to compete for the west division.
The contenders
Right now, everyone is seemingly within arms reach sans a few obvious doormats. It looks like Penn State and Indiana are certainly trending down as the season goes on. Minnesota looks more and more each week like they could be a real threat in the west. Their next two games against Purdue and Illinois should both go well putting them at 7-1 heading into a ridiculously difficult November stretch (Iowa, Ohio State, @ Nebraska and @ Wisconsin).
Everyone else
We'd like to take this opportunity welcome Penn State and Indiana to the bottom feeders support group. We, Illinois and Purdue meet every week to sit down, talk about our feelings, hug and cry. There's juice and coffee on the table in the back.
