Dave Brandon is resigning as Michigan’s AD, source told @ESPN. Press conference this afternoon
— Brett McMurphy (@McMurphyESPN) October 31, 2014
This was tweeted out about a minute before UM announced a news conference with UM president Mark Schlissel for this afternoon at 1:30 from the Regents Room of the Fleming Administration Building on the UM campus. There's been no official confirmation of the rumored resignation by Brandon, but these two things are most certainly related. It would seem that a resignation would fit rather than an outright firing. I'm sure both sides negotiated a settlement in order for the University to not pay Brandon's entire $3 million buyout and for Brandon to save some face.
Either way, in order for a proper coaching search to take place, the first step was to axe Brandon and name a successor…which may or may not happen today. There's been plenty of speculation about possible AD candidates being contacted.
We'll see at 1:30.
