The Committin'

With the commitments of '15's WR George Campbell and RB Damien Harris, this '15 class is already in the works to be historic.  Sam Webb agrees.  He had a sit down with Allen Trieu and Jamie Newberg to get their thoughts on the start to this "high profile" class:
Newberg on Campbell: Well, first of all, he is a first-class kid. Obviously, in today’s game of football you want to be well represented off the field with the microscope these programs and kids are under. He’s a phenomenal kid — probably equal or better than his talent, and his talent is extraordinary...You look at him and he has got a unique skill set because he is huge, he is long, and he is a legit sub-4.4 (40-yard dash) kid....This is a kid that has the athleticism to play defensive end at the next level, to be a safety, obviously receiver, and maybe tight end.
Trieu on Harris:It really took the first play of his film for me to go, ‘Wow, this is going to be a guy!’ This was his freshman season when we first started watching him. Obviously, great speed. He has been timed as low as 4.36 in some places....He is one of those kids who has that knack for making people miss and for finding lanes even when they’re not there. You watch him on film reverse field, he’ll stiff-arm a guy here, juke a guy there, and he is gone. He has that sixth sense for that kind of thing.  I think Damien is potentially is the No. 1 guy in the Midwest. Kentucky is part of the Midwest for (FOX Sports Next). There are a few guys vying for that top spot in the 2015 class. I think Damien is in the conversation.
Finally, Newberg on this class: To be great in college football you have to recruit consistently well. What we’ve seen with Hoke and his staff since he has been there is every year it gets a little bit better — and now they’re recruiting really, really well. So they’ve got to keep that bar high hit every single year, and try to exceed it...So I think Michigan is off to a great start with this class. In the 2014 class you’re talking about guys like (Paramus, N.J. Catholic cornerback) Jabrill Peppers. They’re ranked in the top 10 and they’re obviously off to a wonderful start for next year with a long way to go for both of these groups.
I could read that over and over and over and over...you get it. It's amazing to already have next years class off to this kind of start.

How 'bout theses apples? The CEO of twitter tweeted Campbell congratulating him on his commitment.  That's big time!  And apparently a recruiting violation.  What's not these days.  But CEO Dick Costolo is a Michigan grad who still has plenty of team spirit left in him.  And below are highlights of Campbell from a 7on7 competition in Florida this past summer.

Two extra shots for ya: TomVH breaks down the Campbell's commitment on ESPN's B1G Official Visit, while Steve Wiltfong gives us a look into the future, discussing these two big commitments and who may be the next to drop for the Wolverines.

The BBQin'

Gobs of talent were on hand last weekend as Hoke and co. hosted the annual Big House BBQ.  This is by far Michigan's biggest recruiting day of the year and helps them out tremendously.  This year certainly didn't fail. Almost all the current commits made the trip to AA (save Bryan Mone and Jabrill Peppers), helping this staff recruit as best they can.

Tom Sullivan over at The Wolverine was kind enough to put together a list of visitor's for last Sunday's Big House BBQ.  It's loaded with talent.  You can cross '15 LB Jerome Baker off the list.  He was unable to make it according to Steve Wiltfong.  Reactions were aplenty in the twittersphere following the big event; See what the commits/prospects had to say about there time at Michigan:
-Commits Freddy Canteen and Brandon Watson; this may not be a reaction from the teammates, but is just plain awesome:
-Commit WR Moe Ways, who is up to 200 lbs. (!!):
-Grey-shirt commit DL Brady Pallante:
  -'14 OH DB Mashon Lattimore:
-Lattimore's teammate, '15 ATH Trevon Story tells Rival's Josh Helholdt that this visit "was right up there" with other visits he took this month, including one to Columbus.
-'15 LB Osa Masina:

-'15 OL Sterling Jenkins:

-'16 OL Tommy Roush:

The Offerin'

'15 OH S Tyree Kinnel camped at Michigan this summer in hopes of a offer.  One never came.  But that all changed on Monday for the 4-star, as the coaching staff (figuratively) threw an offer his way.  Kinnel is another tall, physical DB; with measurements of 6' 190, you can see why.

Under the Light's II

Phrases like "Best atmosphere ever!" or "Unbelievable excitement!" are just a few ways recruits described  the inaugural night game at The Big House, that resulted in a 30 sec., 3 play, game winning TD drive, creating chaos, joy, laughter, and probably some tears -- also where we picked a guy by the name of Dymonte Thomas, your rumored starter at Nickel this season, as a freshman!! -- The 2nd edition (and final...chickens) hopes to live up to the hype, creating another unforgettable experience for all those in attendance.

Speaking of, his year's visitor list for the Septmber 7 showdown is shaping up to be a big one.  The nation's top player DE Da'Shawn Hand will make the trip north along with 5-star teammate '15 DL Tim Settle, who is "excited to check out Michigan."  This is Hand's only scheduled official at this point.  His recruitment has also been quiet as of late;  both good signs for the Wolverines.

Other of note who will be there:
-'14 LA RB Leonard Fournette - arguably the top player in the entire '14 class.  Had plans to visit for the BBQ, but never made it up.  This is HUGE news.  Getting this guy on campus is a major victory for this staff.  247's new guy, Kipp Adams, has more here.
-'14 CA LB Dwight Williams - The last option at LB* for this class.  Can Michigan pull him away from the west coast?
-One of  '15's early top prospect DE Jashon Cornell - Cornell took major notice of Campbell's commitment, who he's also been texting about why he chose Michgan.
-'16 MI OL Tommy Roush - Michigan is def. at the top of his list.  And of course, Coach Mattison left an impression.
-'16 IL OL Erik Swenson - already has an offer and loves Michigan.  Big-time talent.

Most commits get together and plan what week they all should take their official visits to Ann Arbor.  One has to believe this will be the event.  Drake Harris, among others, have already confirmed they will be there.

New '14 ESPN300

ESPN has released an updated version of the top 300 prospects in the country.  Nine current commits (out of 15, not bad) make this list, and plenty of talent Michigan is still in on cracked the list as well:

#1 RB Leonard Fournette
#2 Jabrill Peppers
#4 DE Da'Shawn Hand
#6 ATH Adoree Jackson
#41 S Juju Smith
#51 S Marshon Lattimore
#67DE Malik McDowell
#72 Drake Harris
#76 Bryan Mone
#92 DB Parrker Westphal
#112 Lawrence Marshall
#118 Ian Bunting
#122 Juwann Bushell-Beatty
#123 Michael Ferns
#126 Wilton Speight
#146 Mason Cole
#252 S Montae Nicholson
#279 DE/TE Garrett Dickerson

Michigan has a good shot at 2 or 3 of these guys.  Hand and McDowell seem most likely at this point. Take your pick between Nicholson and Westphal for the third spot.

OT

Varsity Aces Brian Giuffra has a video of his experience at Paramus Catholic' football practice yesterday, including an interview with The Commish, Jabrill PeppersThe godfather, Mike Farrell, breaks down the recruitment of '15 RB Jaques PatrickBrandon Brown, formerly of The M Block, is now the Recruiting Reporter at MGoBlog.  His first piece: an interview with Da'Shawn Hand.  That's how you make an impression.  S Adoree Jackson claims he will take an official to Michigan.  Not sure how much you can rely on the twitter timeline-stealing/hogging app Ask.fm., but by-golly he said it!  Point guard of the basketball team, Spike Albrecht apporves of the '14 recruiting class

2 of the 3 remaining '14 LB targets, Jimmie Swain and Richard Yeargin III, are off the board.  Swain pledges to TCU and Yeargin III to Notre Dame.  *explains why Williams is only viable option now
