Kaleb Ringer has left the Michigan football team, program announces.Meinke continues...
— Kyle Meinke (@kmeinke) May 6, 2013
Speculation of Ringer's departure surfaced earlier Monday after he changed his Twitter bio to "@Ring_RingFSU," mentioned "FSU football" in his bio and included the Ferris State logo as his background. His brother, Korey, also plays for the Bulldogs.Yes, that indeed seems to be the case. The 3-star recruit out of Ohio, Hoke's 3rd commit from the 2012 class, has found himself buried too deep for comfort on the linebacker depth chart going into his 2nd year in the program. That place in depth chart is somewhat due in part to his season-ending knee injury from fall camp last summer which kept him out of the 2012 season.
Ringer has not directly stated he's transferring to Ferris State, though, and did not return requests seeking comment.
Long/short-term effects for Michigan? Short-term it means one-less dude on the depth chart. Given the depth already in place and incoming freshmen, I don't see this having much of a negative impact. Long-term it means another precious scholarship becomes available.
Best of luck to Kaleb wherever he ends up.
