MGoHello
The announcement has been made via Paramus Catholic's official twitter account and Jabrill Peppers is your newest Wolverine. The #2 recruit nationally will get a chance to play under defensive coordinator Greg Mattison. Peppers becomes Michigan's highest rated player of the '14 class (and EVER!!), which now has room for 5-6 more, barring attrition of course.
Everyone knows the story. Peppers is a consensus 5-star and is a unique talent that doesn't come around to often. 247's Sports National Recruiting Director Gerry Hamilton has very high praise, even mentioning playing both ways:
"First off, pound for pound there is not a better athlete in the 2014 class than Jabrill Peppers. Simply put, he's truly gifted athletically. He won the genetic lottery, and he is a confident Alpha on the field. Once one gets past his awesome blend of quickness, acceleration, change of direction, long speed and leaping ability; he's also a natural football player. On offense, he's got running back vision -- and it shows whether he is taking a snap as a wildcat quarterback or catching the ball split out. His explosive burst change of direction is pretty special, and he has the vision to go with it. His cut back vision is especially impressive which shows up when taking a snap and working to the second level, or in the open field. Not only is he an explosive athlete with vertical burst and homerun hitting ability, but he also features tremendous balance and the ability to make would be tacklers miss with stop/start and hesitation moves. He's a total package playmaker with sure hands and ball skills, which also makes him a dangerous weapon in the punt return game. He has the knack for putting the ball in the end zone. On defense, he's a physical striker with ball skills at the safety position; with the versatility to play nickel and even corner. He covers hash mark to boundary in the blink of an eye, and can affect plays with the ability to strike and dislodge or leave his feet with terrific timing to make a play on the ball in the air. He plays the game in the secondary with his eyes, and is not just a gifted athlete moving without purpose. Peppers is also a sure tackler with the feel/understanding for when to take the runners legs, when there is an opportunity to strike and when to simply get the ball carrier to the ground. While it's often talked about, Peppers is one of the few prospects that has the chance and ability to legitimately play in the secondary, on offense and in the return game at the college level."We all remember the last guy to play both ways in a Michigan uniform. He turned out pretty good, eh? With a similar build to Charles Woodson, Peppers also possesses electrifying play-making ability and is crazy fast (10.3 100M, 21.3 200). All the services reflect just that. He is ranked in the top 10 in 3/4 sites and save Scout, who somehow has him as the #4 CB (!!), ranks top at the top of his position group. But he's not just a stud on the playing field, he is a great example off the field says Partridge, Peppers high school coach:
“He’s an ultimate competitor,” Partridge said. “He comes to work every day. He’s intense and loves the game and works at it in every aspect. He’s someone that is upbeat. His skills are his skills. Off the field his leadership ability and the way he understands his teammates, and his unselfishness, he knows what he has to do to win football games and the way he competes is special. He gets it. We call him an old soul.”This kid is a can't miss recruit. He's got a good head on his shoulders and understands that it takes hard work in all facets of life to be successful. This could go down as (crazy, bold statement alert) one of the most exciting days in Michigan football recruiting history. Celebrate, enjoy a coldie, treat yourself to some fried chicken (that's what we do in the south); The future looks bright as long as Hoke and co. are around and who knows who else they have up their sleeve, ready to join this #1 class (ESPN, 247 Composite). But I do know that Peppers has been joining a certain few others in recruiting top prospect Da'Shawn Hand for quite some time now #staytuned
Other Offers
Do I even need this section in this instance. Not really. But a few to mention: 'Bama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, ND, OSU, and USC. Not to shabby.
Hype Video
It would've been impossible to limit this to just one video; really just would've been disrespectful in my opinion so feast on talent oozing from your computer screen, a rap announcment (that finally aired) including a look at Jabrill in the winged helmet, and his newest rap video:
Something Scary to Think About
Jabrill Peppers not being on your team.
