Injury notes:
• CB Troy Wookfolk sustained a sprain ankle in the WMU game (not the same ankle he injured last year). He's working with the training staff to be ready for ND. Word was that he could have been put back in last week had he been needed.
• OLB Cam Gordon "tweaked" his back in practice leading up to the first game, according to Hoke. He is also expected to make a return against the Irish.

Personnel notes for the Notre Dame game
• According to the weekly release, Fitz Toussaint will start at RB again.
• Also, OL Ricky Branum is also listed at starter at left guard. Michael Schofield started in Barnum's absence last week, even though Elliot Mealer is and was listed as Ricky's backup.
• Brady Hoke also addressed kickoff coverage issues and said that "it's very competitive", and that we will likely see some new faces on the coverage this week.

Brandon Herron
In case anyone missed it, Brandon Herron, who was the defensive standout last week was awarded numerous honors for his two-touchdown performance.

U-M Linebacker Brandon Herron Wins Numerous Weekly Awards, Including Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week
Ann Arbor, Mich. – University of Michigan fifth-year senior linebacker Brandon Herron (Stafford, Texas/Dulles) won numerous weekly awards Monday (Sept. 5) for his performance in U-M’s 34-10 victory over Western Michigan last Saturday, highlighted by Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors. Herron becomes the first Michigan player to be named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week since Brandon Graham (Sept. 29, 2008).
Herron also was named National Defensive Performer of Week 1 and National Linebacker Performer of the Week by College Football Performance Awards (CFPA), and he earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors by College Sports Madness. On Sunday, Herron was named Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week.
Herron, in his first career start last Saturday, recorded a career-high eight tackles, his first career interception and became the first Wolverines player in the modern era (since 1948) to record two defensive touchdown returns in the same game.
With the score tied 7-7 with 6:58 remaining in the second quarter, Herron intercepted a pass at the U-M six-yard line and scored on a 94-yard return to give the Wolverines their first lead of the game. It marked the longest interception return for a touchdown in the modern era (previous record was held by Ken Tureaud and Thom Darden with 92-yard touchdown returns). Then, with 9:27 left in the third quarter, Herron recovered a fumble following a Jordan Kovacs (Curtice, Ohio/Clay) sack and sprinted 29 yards for a touchdown, giving Michigan a 27-10 lead.
Herron has played in 32 career games and totaled 42 tackles, two fumble recoveries and one interception.
